RIP Archie Sonic Comic

After several months of uncertainty, SEGA and Archie Comics finally confirmed they’re cancelling the Sonic the Hedgehog comics. I don’t know about you, but for me this is the end of an era.

I’m not gonna try to argue about how good the comics actually were for the 24 years Archie did them, but I am going to try to impart a sense of how and why they meant so much to me as well as other readers. In most news stories about Archie’s Sonic comics you’ll probably hear that the mainline Sonic the Hedgehog series was the longest-running comic based on a video game, but for readers it was really a story in itself, one that in many ways went above and beyond everything that happened with the games. [Comics] Does Restoring Pre-Crisis DC Make Things Easier Or Harder For Superhero Comic Newbies (Like Me)?

On the periphery of my news feeds I picked up a revelation that DC Comics has apparently restored an old status-quo where its continuity consisted of various separate continuities and different versions of superheroes. This comes after repeated attempts to reboot all DC continuity since 1985. I barely have any idea what it means and just see this as an opportunity to ask for help with my confusion with superhero comics. Continue reading

The iPhone 6 Plus As A Comic Reader

In the weeks since the iPhone 6 Plus came around one discussion I’ve seen very little of is the device’s viability as a comic book reader. It’s one of the main reasons I got one.

The phablet’s viability for reading in general has probably been extensively talked about. The iPad’s main original purpose was digital reading. The purpose of the phablet is to be a tablet that fits in your pocket. Reading eBooks on the 6 Plus isn’t a hassle at all with text size adjustment in apps like iBooks, but reading what are basically image files with static words on them is a bit more delicate.
